The former Leyton Orient and Oxford stopper was dismissed by referee Steve Dunn for violent conduct last week, meaning a mandatory ban.
Blues boss Steve Bruce appealed the decision, as he felt Purse did not deliberately aim a punch at Luis Boa Morte in the closing stages against The Cottagers.
"The video advisory panel have come back with their verdict that in their view, this was not a case of wrongful dismissal, and accordingly the appeal fails and the red card stands," said an FA spokesman.
"He will therefore serve a three-match suspension for violent conduct."
Purse is available for Bruce for their clash against Leeds United, but will be unavailable for the matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
