The former Blackburn Rovers star lasted just eight minutes of Blues' FA Cup replay loss to Sunderland on Wednesday could now be set for a spell on the sidelines.
Dunn has played a pivotal role in the club's success this term and with a number of stars on the sidelines the potential blow could not have come at a worse time.
"Obviously we have to see what the specialist has to say but it certainly looks like a tear," explained Bruce.
"If that is the case, then we will probably be looking at David being out of action for four to six weeks at the very least.
"It is a big blow to us and at the moment all three of our creative players - David, Stan Lazaridis and Christophe Dugarry - are all out of action."
Meanwhile, Bruce is urging his players to pick up the pieces of their season after their FA Cup exit left them with just a European place to play for.
"The players realise they have let a massive opportunity slip and it's not too often that opportunities open up for you in football," he added.
"But it's gone now and it's the job of myself and the staff to lift everyone and remind them that we've still got a third of the season to go and that there is still plenty to play for.
"We've had a good few months, we are eighth in the Premiership and it's important that we finish the season on a good note as well."
