Clinton Morrison is a major doubt for Republic of Ireland's first two World Cup qualifiers.Republic of Ireland striker Clinton Morrison is a major doubt for his country's first two World Cup qualifiers next month.
Morrison missed last weekend's defeat to Chelsea after picking up a knee injury in the draw with Bulgaria.
Brian Kerr's men face Cyprus at Lansdowne Road on September 4 before taking on Euro 2004 finalists Switzerland in Basel four days later and Kerr will be hoping Morrison will be fit to take his place in the squad.
Blues boss Steve Bruce revealed the injury is not too serious, but that he may need the two-week international break to fully recover from the problem.
"Thankfully, the results have come back that it's nothing serious but he has got soft tissue damage," said Bruce.
"We expect him to be back in training towards the end of this week so he may be in contention for the weekend, but I doubt it."
"He must also be considered as a major doubt for the forthcoming internationals at the start of September."
