Savage reveals injury agony

Robbie Savage has revealed that he could have died had he received a knock to a neck injury.

Robbie Savage has revealed that he was told in the summer that he could have died had he received another knock to a neck injury.

The Birmingham midfielder needed emergency surgery last term and top orthopedic surgeon Andre Jackowski warned him that the injury could have left him paralyzed.

Savage has since returned to full fitness but has now revealed the extent of the nightmare he went through.

''My world stopped when the specialist said 'One more knock on the pitch, a fall at home, or a jerk in the car and you could be dead,'' Savage told the News of the World.

''The astonishing and frightening thing was that I played the last three games of the season against Arsenal, Liverpool and Blackburn.

''It didn't feel right but I decided to make myself available for a testimonial game. But during the warm-up I collapsed when a team-mate gave me a tiny push in the back.

''It scares me stupid just talking about it, even though I am now fully recovered.

''The operation puts everything in perspective.''
