Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has admitted an interest in Fernando Ricksen.Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has admitted an interest in Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen.
Dutch international Ricksen is out of contract in the summer and there are no signs that a new deal will be agreed in the near future.
Ricksen's agent Henk van Ginkel told skysports.com this week that Ricksen will not be heading out of Ibrox in January, but will consider all his options carefully over the next six months.
The Dutchman is comfortable playing at full back but has made a name for himself in Glasgow as a combative midfielder and his versatility is clearly an attractive proposition to Bruce.
"He is out of contract in the summer and I am sure there will be a few others looking at him," Bruce said of Ricksen.
Everton are also believed to be keen on Ricksen and he could well be attracted to the prospect of a move to The Premiership in the summer.
Bruce, meanwhile, has extended young keeper Colin Doyle's loan spell at Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.
Doyle has been acting as cover for Paul Gerrard at The City Ground and will remain with the embattled Championship club until the end of the season.
