The former Blackburn schemer has been plagued by the injury in the past couple of seasons and now faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines after aggravating the complaint.
This latest blow comes as a bitter blow for Dunn, as he was reproducing the kind of form that once made him a contender for international honours - with Morrison keen to play up the player's England credentials.
"It is a big problem for Dunny and I'm so disappointed for him because in the last few games he has been brilliant,'' said Morrison.
"There is no doubt that he has given us that extra spark and was definitely back to his old self that everyone knows he is capable of.
"I am sure if he had carried on playing like he was, then he would have got into the England reckoning on that left side of midfield because he has been brilliant there.
''As a forward he is great to play with and gives a great pass."
Dunn recently conceded that the injury is serious enough for him to fear for his career and this latest setback will do little to allay his reservations.
However, Morrison has urged his team-mate to come back even stronger and tipped him to make another return from what has been a nightmare injury.
Morrison continued: "Hopefully he won't be down for too long. I went across to him and said keep your head up because I knew his hamstring had gone straight away.
"What is in Dunny's favour is that he is a strong character and hopefully he'll bounce back from it like he has done in the past."
