Keeper eyes Coventry deal

Birmingham City goalkeeper Ian Bennett is hoping he can stay at Coventry City.

Birmingham City goalkeeper Ian Bennett is hoping he can stay at Coventry City on a permanent basis.

Bennett has spent the past month on loan at Highfield Road but that deal concludes after Saturday's clash at Sunderland.

With his prospects at St Andrews bleak, Bennett is keeping his fingers crossed that he can remain with The Sky Blues.

The shot-stopper is due for talks with Coventry boss Micky Adams, and his current employer Steve Bruce, and is keen for a deal to be struck.

"My loan spell is up on Saturday so I will be speaking to the manager and Steve Bruce at Birmingham," said Bennett.

"I am out of contract in the summer and with the transfer deadline coming up next week we have got a lot to talk about.

"But I hope I can stay here and work something out."

Meanwhile, Coventry have put Sean Cooney on the transfer list, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Cooney has made just one first team appearance for The Sky Blues, as a substitute against Gillingham in April 2003, and he is not being retained by Adams.
