David Dunn has been given the green light to start pre-season training.
Birmingham's injury-jinxed midfielder David Dunn is hoping to be ready to return to action by the end of September.
The former Blackburn man has been given the all-clear to begin his pre-season training plan, as he bids to finally put his hamstring nightmares behind him.
Blues boss Steve Bruce confirmed: "David has started his own pre-season and it is basically the same one all the other lads went through.
"He's now doing all the running the rest of the squad went through when they came back for training in early July.
"That shows how much he has to do before we can even consider playing him and he will have to see a specialist again in September to check his progress.
"But, if he is given the all-clear at that stage, then he will be fit and raring to go."
Bruce believes it will be like signing a new player when Dunn makes his return, and the Birmingham chief is convinced that the midfielder can help the club push for a European place this season.
"It was no coincidence that when David came here Birmingham City played their best football in The Premiership and were in the top six for the first half of that season.
"He is a special player who can make things tick and we are better when he is in the side. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that things are now going to be right for him."
