Dunn has been battling to overcome a long-standing hamstring problem which has stalled his Birmingham career.
He had made good progress in recent weeks and was expected to take the field in a couple of reserve encounters.
However, he has been forced to pull out at the 11th hour on a couple of occasions and this has raised eyebrows in the Second City.
Bruce, though, says there is no cause for alarm and expects the midfielder to return to action in the near future.
"There is nothing sinister going on with David Dunn," said Bruce. "I know he has been lined up for a couple of reserve games and has pulled out of them, but I can assure everyone there is nothing wrong with him.
"We fully expect him to be back very soon."
