The 31-year-old, whose Blues career has been blighted by injuries, believes that the squad have the ability to pull clear of trouble.
"We're delighted with the three points against Sunderland because we needed the win," Izzet told Sky Sports.
"It's nice to have a full squad of players available, so the manager can make a few changes if needed.
"Hopefully this result can be a springboard for the rest of the season. Results breed confidence and now we can look forward to the home game with West Ham next Monday with more optimism."
Izzet, who joined Birmingham from Leicester in 2004, is relieved to finally have the chance to impress the St Andrews faithful.
"I was injured for the whole of my first season really. Now I am getting fit I can hopefully play in a run of games," he said.
