Jonathan Greening says that David Gold's comments lifted West Brom on Saturday.
David Gold's claims that Birmingham are a better side than West Bromwich Albion served only to strengthen The Baggies' resolve, according to Jonathan Greening.
The Blues chairman believed his side would have the edge in Saturday's West Midlands derby because they had more quality in their side, but Greening reckons Albion boss Bryan Robson had no need to fire his players up after they heard Gold's comments.
"Their chairman said they had more quality than us. We all heard what he said and our captain Kevin Campbell mentioned it just before we went out," he revealed.
"To be honest, that wound us up a bit. We happen to think we have got a lot of quality in our team. We were the ones playing football while they were launching it.
"We were devastated not to have won it."
The 1-1 draw did few favours for either club, as they both remain glued inside the bottom four as the season enters the finishing straight.
