Jermaine Pennant says he is keen to repay Steve Bruce by keeping Birmingham up.
Birmingham star Jermaine Pennant says he is keen to repay Steve Bruce by keeping Birmingham in The Premiership.
The right winger has enjoyed a productive season despite the travails of his team, and owes a debt of gratitude to his boss after he signed him from Arsenal and stuck by him despite a one-month spell in jail.
Despite an alleged incident at an after-show party for rap star Kanye West, Pennant has made an effort to clean up his act over the course of the current campaign, and his form has benefited with Tottenham linked with an interest in the winger.
Now the 23-year-old admits he is desperate to do well for his under-fire boss and repay him for his faith in the best possible way by steering Blues clear of the drop.
"The manager has shown a great deal of faith in me and that is probably much of the reason why I've done quite well this season," said Pennant.
"He has given me everything I wanted, a chance to play in The Premiership week-in and week-out, and, when I have had little mishaps which have been in the papers, he has stuck by me.
"He has shown both trust and faith in me and I am very grateful for that so I am desperate to get out of this situation for myself, the club and the gaffer.
"We have got seven cup finals coming up and I will do all I can to get as many points on the board as possible so that Blues will be in The Premiership next season."
Birmingham are currently two points adrift of safety, with both Portsmouth and West Brom better placed to avoid joining Sunderland in The Championship next season.
