Rowan Vine has admitted he came close to joining West Brom.
Rowan Vine has admitted he came close to joining West Brom only for Birmingham to come in with a comparable offer which persuaded Luton to cash in.
Blues chief Steve Bruce spent heavily in January in a bid to improve their chances of securing promotion and Vine went some way to repaying a chunk of his £2.5million price tag when netting the winning goal against Derby on Friday.
The goal was Vine's first for the club and sent Birmingham back to the top of the table, but he has revealed that things could have been different had Nicklas Bendtner not picked up an injury.
"There were a couple of offers that came in for me," said Vine.
"Cardiff and West Brom were there or thereabouts. When Birmingham made it apparent they were interested, I think they made it their business to get me.
"Once they came in, I don't think they were going to go away until they got me but, it's true, I could have ended up playing for West Brom if Birmingham hadn't come in and matched the asking price.
"When Nicklas was injured, I think that was the final straw for the manager. He wanted to get someone in with Mikael Forssell injured as well."
