Peter Lovenkrands insists his Newcastle United career is far from finished despite finding first-team appearances limited this season.
The 32-year-old forward formed a lethal partnership with fans' favourite Andy Carroll and was key to the side winning promotion to the Premier League in 2010.
The departure of Carroll to Liverpool and the arrival of Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, though, have seen the Danish striker slip down the pecking order at the club.
But Lovenkrands, a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2009, intends to impress in training and play his way to another contract when his current one runs out at the end of the season.

"It's been a bit tough for me personally this season," he said. "I started well and scored three goals in four games, but since then I haven't had a lot of time on the field.
"The new boys Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse have been going well, and I've just got to keep working well and hopefully I'll get another chance.
"I'm not the type of player to let my head drop or complain. No matter how things go I'll still work hard in training and put a shift whenever I'm called on.
"It's all about proving myself and waiting for my opportunity, and that's what I'm trying to do."
