Sunderland have accepted a £2million bid from Reading for goalkeeper Vito Mannone, Sky sources understand.

Mannone is set to have a medical with the Royals on Wednesday.

The Italian keeper, who has been a regular in Simon Grayson's side during the pre-season fixtures, was left out of the squad to face Hartlepool United in a friendly with Max Stryjek replacing him in the starting line-up.

Simon Grayson's Sunderland stepped up their preparations for life in the Championship with a 3-0 win at Livingston.

Mannone, who has one year left on his current deal, has been linked with a return to Italy.
