Laws hoping to keep Byrne

SCUNTHORPE UNITED boss Brian Laws is still in talks with Premiership side Sunderland over a permanent move for defender Clifford Byrne.

The 20-year-old is coming to the end of a three-month loan spell with The Iron and Laws has until the end of the week to cut a deal with The Black Cats for Byrne.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has been in excellent form during his three months at Glanford Park and Laws hopes he can make the central defender a permanent member of his squad.

Meanwhile, cash-strapped York City have extended the loan of Sunderland goalkeeper Michael Ingham by another month at Bootham Crescent.

Ingham was brought in last month after Minstermen boss Terry Dolan was left with one first team goalkeeper in John Collinson, following the departure of former number one Alan Fettis to fellow Division Three side Hull City.
