The talented flanker was a forlorn figure during Sunderland's relegation campaign last term, but he has had a new lease of life under Mick McCarthy.
Playing in his preferred left back position, Arca has returned to the form that made a firm fans' favourite a couple of seasons ago.
Arca is refusing to get carried away, but revealed he has one eye on Athens next summer.
"The qualification tournament takes place in January and the Olympics themselves in August but I have not heard anything about whether I would be considered for the squad," Arca told the club's website.
"I have spoken to people from the national team a few times and I think it is good for me that I'm back playing in my preferred position at left back.
"They know that I played on the left wing when I first came to Sunderland, although I always played at left back for Argentina, but it is better for me to show them what I can do now that I am playing in defence all the time.
"I know the Argentinian FA speak to Sunderland from time to time and ask for videos of games so that they can see how I am playing.
"Last season was disappointing for me because I didn't play many games but this season it is different. I hope this season will be my season and I will get the chance to break into the Under-23 side."
