The former Everton winger has started both games for The Whites after being snapped up for four weeks earlier this month.
Oster fell out of the first-team picture at The Stadium of Light and conceded he spoke to Mick McCarthy and that a change of scenery was best for all concerned.
"Mick McCarthy has been really good to me and I've got no complaints with him," said Oster to The Journal.
"We had a chat and mutually agreed that maybe it was time for a change.
"He's got to play the lads at Sunderland that are going to be there so I needed a move in order to get some games in."
Oster is enjoying life at Elland Road and is open to the possibility of extending the loan.
"There's a month and we'll see how it goes and whether or not there is a chance the loan can be extended," he added.
"It's been a while since I last started a game so it has been good to get a couple in again.
"There's half-a-dozen games over the month so I'm hoping to play as much as I can."
