Sunderland are reportedly ready to renew their interest in Ipswich striker Shefki Kuqi.Sunderland are reportedly ready to renew their interest in Ipswich Town striker Shefki Kuqi.
Mick McCarthy is desperate to add a target man to his squad for next season's assault on The Premiership and could move for Finland international Kuqi.
The Black Cats boss was keen on the powerful front man last summer but may now be able to take advantage of Ipswich's failure to win promotion.
Kuqi recently stressed he was willing to sign a new contract at Portman Road but Ipswich's play-off capitulation may prompt him to reconsider his future.
He has emerged as a £1.5 million target for Sunderland, who have been snubbed by Borussia Dortmund giant Jan Koller.
McCarthy's transfer raid on The Championship may not only be limited to a bid for Kuqi as Eddie Lewis and Frazer Richardson are also rumoured to be on his shopping list.
Preston winger Lewis has caught McCarthy's eye following a string of consistent performances for the play-off finalists.
Any bid for the American wide man could hinge on Preston's own bid to join Sunderland in The Premiership next term.
Leeds United defender Richardson is also thought to be interesting McCarthy, who wants to ensure Sunderland have a squad strong enough to cope with the demands of the top flight.
