Mick McCarthy is pleased with the signings of Alan Stubbs and Anthony Le Tallec.
Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy has expressed his satisfaction at the recent signings of Alan Stubbs and Anthony Le Tallec but insists that he is still looking to add to his squad.
The Black Cats, who completed the transfer deals earlier this week, are expected to hand both players a debut against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on Saturday.
McCarthy told Sky Sports News: "With Alan we've now got that extra experience that we have been looking to add to the squad.
"Le Tallec is a versatile player and a very talented one at that. I'm sure he will prove to be a very good signing for us this year."
The acquisition of former Evertonian, Stubbs, has led McCarthy to loan out highly-rated defender Neil Collins in order to give him more first-team football.
McCarthy said: "Neil will go out on loan and it will do him the world of good."
While Sunderland have enjoyed a mixed pre-season, losing to Hull and Sheffield United in their last two outings, McCarthy believes his side will be ready for their Premiership return on August 13 against Charlton.
"I've been through enough pre-seasons to know what matters. It's a week on Saturday that counts, we'll be a different proposition then.
"We scrapped long and hard to get into The Premiership. We won't be going in there with a whimper that is for sure but to compete," he added.
Despite McCarthy's confidence that his Sunderland side is well equipped to compete in the top flight, the former Millwall and Republic of Ireland boss confirmed that he is still looking to bring in new faces.
"We could start the season now happy with what we've got but we would like a bit more backup for the season if possible."
