The Argentine is one of The Black Cats' more established performers although has been struggling with a toe injury in recent weeks.
Arca had been playing through the pain barrier although, under doctor's instructions, has now been using crutches in a bid to rest the injury.
Despite carrying the knock the 24-year-old is confident of taking on Sir Alex Ferguson's side after the convenient rest provided by the international break.
"It has been sore for the last three or four weeks," said Arca.
"With treatment I kept playing but I was training last Tuesday and it was very painful.
"The doctors did a scan and, although nothing is broken, there is a danger that it could get worse if I don't rest, and if that happened I would be out for eight weeks."
