Le Tallec happy with goal

Anthony Le Tallec admits scoring for France Under-21s was a welcome relief.

Anthony Le Tallec admits scoring for France Under-21s was a welcome relief from his struggles with Sunderland.

The young striker netted France's goal in their European Under-21 Championship play-off against England on Friday evening.

Le Tallec's strike helped to earn France a 1-1 draw and continued his rich vein of form at international level.

His exploits for the Under-21s are a stark contrast to his situation at Sunderland, where he is spending the season on loan from Liverpool.

Sunderland are bottom of The Premiership and Le Tallec has managed only one goal in eight league appearances, although six have been as a substitute.

He now feels France are in a strong position to edge past England and was happy to put his club troubles to one side.

"We have mixed feelings in the end," said Le Tallec of the draw. "We could have scored more, but it is good to score away from home.

"We ran and put a lot of pressure on so it was a little difficult in the end, but it remains a positive result.

"The Under-21 French team is a lifesaver to me. I have fun and I score."
