Midfielder Carl Robinson has joined Norwich City on a two-month loan deal, while Irish striker Daryl Murphy heads to Sheffield Wednesday for a similar spell.
Wales international Robinson (pictured) joins up with The Canaries after becoming surplus to requirements at The Stadium of Light.
The deal is with a view to an extension or even a permanent arrangement in the January transfer window, as Carrow Road boss Nigel Worthington tries to kick-start Norwich's below-par Championship campaign.
Murphy heads to Hillsborough for a two-month spell following his summer arrival from League of Ireland club Waterford United.
The move to The Owls gives the 22-year-old a chance to get more first team football.
"It's a good club and it gives me the chance to get more experience and play games," Murphy told Sunderland's official website.
The Irishman's departure has prompted McCarthy to recall striker Chris Brown from his near three-month loan at Championship side Hull City.
