Jon Stead is savouring Sunderland's return to winning ways.Jon Stead has admitted he had almost forgot what it was like to win after Sunderland finally recorded a victory at the weekend.
The Black Cats picked up their first success in 15 games with a 1-0 win at West Brom on Saturday.
Stead, who is still waiting for his first goal for the club, admitted all the players were delighted to taste victory again.
"The fans celebrated like they had won the league, and it was just the same for us guys," Stead told the club's official website. "It's been a long time coming.
"When you have to wait so long for something you want, it makes it all the better when it happens. Everyone is delighted. I think we deserved it, we gave our all.
"We have deserved something for three or four weeks now and we got our just rewards. The lads have forgotten what a win bonus is.
"We have had a bit of luck - for a change. I think it's what we deserve."
The former Blackman man is refusing to give up hope that Sunderland can somehow get themselves out of trouble at the wrong end of the table.
"We will just try to ignore where we are in the table and take each game as it comes," added Stead
"If we can get a good result in the FA Cup next week, it would set us up nicely for Boro, who are not having the best of times.
"It's going to be a hell of an effort to climb out of this, but we feel we can build on the West Brom result. We have got nothing to lose now, we might as well enjoy it."
