Leicester City have signed Gareth McAuley on a free transfer from Lincoln City.
Leicester City have signed defender Gareth McAuley on a free transfer from Lincoln City.
The Northern Ireland international joins the Championship club on a three-year deal after making 65 league appearances for The Imps.
He nearly left Lincoln in the January transfer window, but a move to Crewe Alexandra failed to materialise, while Sunderland were also showed interest in the central defender.
The former Coleraine centre back helped the Sincil Bank club to the League Two play-offs last season, but the defender has followed former boss Keith Alexander out the Lincoln exit door following the end of the season.
After completing his move to The Foxes, McAuley pointed to the influence Leicester boss Rob Kelly had on his decision to move to The Walkers Stadium.
"I had other Championship clubs interested in my services, but the gaffer's thoughts and ambition sealed it for me," McAuley told the club's official website.
"You just get a gut feeling sometimes and after a chat with him, I had no hesitation in signing.
"Leicester have Premier League facilities and I want to help them get back up into the top flight and have a crack at that level of football."
