Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn gave little away regarding his impending appointment as manager of The Black Cats.The former Republic of Ireland striker looks set to appoint himself as boss of the Championship side on Tuesday, with the new season less than two weeks away.
The North East club have been unsuccessful in finding a managerial replacement for caretaker Kevin Ball this summer, with first team coach Kevin Richardson having taken pre-season training with the Stadium of Light squad.
The former Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland hit-man claimed it will be his duty to get things back on track at the club.
"I think it's probably best (to leave things) until my group of backers rubber-stamp everything," Quinn told Sky Sports News after their 2-0 pre-season win at Irish club Shelbourne.
"It will reveal itself tomorrow (Tuesday), if everything goes well at this meeting tonight.
"What we've got to do is knit everything together.
"We've got to get this willing team to get back on track and become the side that we know they're capable of.
"We've got to get the whole fans base in Sunderland to believe in their team again. We've got to connect the two.
"I suppose from the management point of view, myself and my staff are charged with doing that."
Sunderland, meanwhile, are sweating over the fitness of George McCartney and Andy Welsh following the win at Shelbourne.
Both players will have scans on their respective injuries, with McCartney having suffered suspected knee ligament damage, while Welsh went over on his ankle in Monday's friendly.
