Sunderland have secured the loan signing of Derby defender Lewin Nyatanga.
Sunderland have secured the loan signing of Derby defender Lewin Nyatanga until January.
The Wales international joins The Black Cats from Pride Park, as rookie boss Roy Keane looks to ease his defensive headache.
Keane is without injured trio Stephen Wright, Stephen Caldwell and Kenny Cunningham, which means Nyatanga could make an immediate debut at the weekend against Barnsley.
Nyatanga proved his credentials last term in making 25 appearances but under Billy Davies' tenure this season, he has fallen down the Scot's pecking order.
Meanwhile, Keane insists Rory Delap's proposed switch to Stoke will go ahead despite the fact the Irishman could miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Delap is on loan at Stoke until January, when a permanent deal was expected to be completed, but this was prior to the player suffering fractures to the tibia and fibula on Tuesday.
Keane is, though, convinced that Stoke will honour the initial agreement, with Delap to continue his rehabilitation work at The Britannia Stadium.
"We had a gentleman's agreement with Stoke that Rory would go on loan with a permanent deal in place [to take effect in January] and Stoke have been true to their word," confirmed Keane.
"Rory will do his rehab work there - he is still on loan there and he will become a full-time Stoke player."
