Davies hoping for active window

Derby manager Billy Davies is hopeful of signing on-loan striker Jon Stead from Sunderland.

Derby manager Billy Davies is hopeful of signing on-loan striker Jon Stead from Sunderland on a permanent basis.

Stead, who was due back at Sunderland on Tuesday, has scored three goals in his 17 appearances for The Rams, and Davies is keen to retain his services.

"There is a bit of talking to be done, I am hoping we can get something sorted," Davies told the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph.

"He will have to go back and we will have to sit down and see what can be done."

Stead has returned to training with Sunderland and has admitted to being uncertain as to his future with the club.

"I'm back in training with Sunderland and I'll just have to look at it over the next couple of weeks and see what happens," he said.

"I haven't had any contact with Roy Keane but I'll be knocking on his door to see what's what."

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder David Jones is set to complete a permanent move from Manchester United this week.

Davies added: "There will be an announcement on David Jones this week and we are very confident."
