Sunderland's Carlos Edwards could return from a shoulder injury before the end of March.
Sunderland winger Carlos Edwards could return from a shoulder injury before the end of March.
The 28-year-old sustained a shoulder injury against West Brom at the start of the month, and was initially told he would be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
However, he has managed to maintain his fitness and there is an outside chance he could return at Ninian Park on 31st March.
"I don't know if I'll have a chance for Cardiff, but I do want to get back to playing as soon as possible," he told the club's official website. "At the moment, we're looking at five weeks.
"I really don't know how long I'm going to be out, but I'm pleased with the way things seem to be going. It's difficult to put an exact time on it.
"Hopefully I won't lose my fitness too much - running helps keep the momentum. I've been a quick healer in the past and we're just seeing how it heals day to day. I just miss playing."
Edwards has been frustrated by the injury, but admits it could have been much worse.
"It's a shame for me because I was playing well and helping the team. You never want to pick up an injury, but they happen and you get on with it.
"I've had a serious injury before, so while it is disappointing to miss matches, I have to be grateful that it is not a lot worse.
"At first, I thought I had broken it. I knew something was wrong and I'm just glad it's not too serious."
