Winger impresses Keane during pre-season training

Ross Wallace is happy to have been given a second chance to forge a career at Sunderland by Roy Keane. The Scottish winger was placed on the transfer list in January before turning down a move to Preston North End earlier this month. However, he has impressed Black Cats boss Keane in pre-season training and has now been taken off the transfer list. Wallace is grateful for another opportunity at the Stadium of Light and admits his focus has always been on reclaiming his place in the Sunderland side.

Incentive

"The gaffer never said the door was completely closed to me and that gave me the incentive to try to turn things around," Wallace told the Sunderland Echo. "I have not been wondering this summer if I would be moved on - I have been focused on coming back to prepare for another season with Sunderland. "The gaffer has always been honest with the players. If you are playing well and showing the right attitude, you will be in the team. "He doesn't say something to you for the sake of it - he wasn't bluffing when I went on the list. "But he gives you the chance to change things."
