Jean-Yves Mvoto's loan at Southend United has been cut short to allow the defender to return to Sunderland to continue his rehabilitation from a hip injury.
Mvoto went under the knife three weeks ago in Coventry, after the initial injury he picked up against Leeds in September flared up the following week during the Shrimpers' 3-2 win at Brighton.
The big centre-back has made only six appearances for the club during his six-month stay due to the injury and he has not featured since that game with the Seagulls.
He is not expected to return to Southend as his loan deal expires on 10th January, with his rehabilitation expected to last for at least six weeks.
