Full-back hopes to follow up Liverpool win with victory at Everton

Sunderland's Wayne Bridge is hoping his side can beat Everton in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final tie to make it two successive wins over Merseyside opposition. The Black Cats travel to Goodison Park fresh from a 1-0 win over Liverpool last weekend, courtesy of Nicklas Bendtner's second-half goal. Bridge made his full debut for Sunderland in that game and hopes his side can follow up the home victory over Liverpool with some cup success. He told the club's official website: "The competition still has a bit of magic and, while we're doing well in the league, it'd be nice to push on a bit more.

Positive

"To get a medal would be tremendous. Being here, we feel like no matter who we come up against, we can get a win. Now we have to be positive, go out there and do it." Sunderland have beaten Peterborough, Middlesbrough and Arsenal to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in eight years, and Bridge is excited about his team's cup run. He added: "It won't be easy but I am sure it will be a good game. We need to defend well again and first and foremost keep a clean sheet. I'm sure we've got the players to nick goals at the other end. "Something I've definitely noticed since I've been here is how passionate everyone is about their football. "It doesn't surprise me there's a lot of fans going down and a lot who couldn't get tickets. Winning would mean a lot to the fans and the players are definitely up for it."
