Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is desperate for Shay Given to regain full fitness - even though it would scupper his own Euro 2012 chances.
Sunderland shot-stopper Westwood earned his ninth Republic cap when he started Saturday's 1-0 victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.
The 27-year-old was handed a rare opportunity by Giovanni Trapattoni as regular No.1 Given continues to recover from a knee injury.
Aston Villa's Given is set to resume training this week and Trapattoni expects the 36-year-old to line up between the sticks for Ireland's final warm-up game against Hungary next Monday.
But there is no bitterness from understudy Westwood, who is putting his country's hopes before his own.
"Shay is a hero of mine, so I couldn't wish him any ill will," said the former Coventry keeper.
"OK, I may have benefited if he was unavailable, but that isn't what I want as a person or what we want as a squad. We want Shay fit.
"At club level, a little bitterness can exist within a squad, but we have none of that here. We are all in it together."
