Brown and Cuellar limp off in friendly; Mignolet not risked

Sunderland have injury worries in pre-season with Simon Mignolet, Carlos Cuellar and Wes Brown all struggling with problems. Mignolet was not even risked in Sunday's 3-2 win over Groningen, allowing young goalkeepers Ben Wilson and Jordan Pickford to pick up some senior team experience. "Simon had a groin problem today and we decided not to risk him in the game," Black Cats boss Martin O'Neill told the club's official website. "It was nice for (Wilson and Pickford) to get a game with Simon not being risked. I thought they acquitted themselves pretty well." A bigger concern for O'Neill were the injuries that Brown and new signing Cuellar picked up during the game itself, with both defenders limping off. "Wes has done some damage and that's a concern, while Carlos complained of his thigh being sore," added O'Neill. Ryan Noble's late goal won Sunderland the match against Groningen with Connor Wickham and Fraizer Campbell getting the other goals.
