The Nottingham Forest custodian is free to move back into The Premiership, and he had seemed certain to seal a transfer to Leicester, in order to provide competition for Tim Flowers. With Pegguy Arphexad completing his move to Liverpool, the way has been paved for `Norm` to move in.
However, O`Neill`s likely defection to Scotland, may lead to Crossley having to look elsewhere for a new club - not that he is short of options.
"Leicester is the first choice for a new club for me after finding out that staying at Forest was not an option," the keeper told the Nottingham Evening Post.
"But, if it doesn`t go ahead, there are still a couple of other Premier League clubs interested, so I just have to wait and see.
"There is also a First Division club that is interested but I would prefer to stay in the East Midlands."
Derby denied planning a swoop for the keeper, who once had a loan spell at Manchester United, so his future is still a little unclear - although Leicester remain strong favourites to clinch his signature.
