SMITH: ALL MY PLAYERS HAVE A PRICE

JIM SMITH has admitted that every Derby County player is available for the right price, but stated that rumours linking Rory Delap and Malcolm Christie with a move to Middlesbrough are not true.

With Steve McClaren set to take over the Middlesbrough manager's job, there has been inevitable rumours that he will make moves for young charges that had been under his tutelage at both Derby and Manchester United.

Delap and Christie both know McClaren from his time as a coach at Derby, but Rams boss Jim Smith says that rumours of a double swoop are premature, but that he would have to consider any serious offer for one of his players.

"If an offer does come in then I'll have to think about it," confirmed the veteran boss.

"Everyone has a price especially at a club like Derby County.

"I haven't heard of any interest regarding Christie and Delap, talk of £10 million is news to me.

"They are quality players who'd improve any club but I want them to carry on improving this club.

"They have both got three or four years remaining on their contracts here so they won't be going anywhere just yet.

"Anyway, as it stands Middlesbrough don't actually have a manager in place. Until they do I can't see anything happening.

"I have spoken to Steve McClaren but it wasn't to discuss those players."
