DERBY COUNTY have confirmed that they are on the cusp of signing Milan youngster Daniele Daino in a year's loan deal.
The East Midlanders, who have already raided Italy to bring Fabrizio Ravanelli to the club from Lazio, expect to have a deal finalised by Tuesday for the young star.
"We are close to a deal, and we should know one way or another by Tuesday," confirmed a spokesman of the club to planetfootball.
"The club are looking at a one-year loan deal."
Planetfootball first revealed that The Rams had turned their attention to the Rossoneri defensive midfielder back in July, but it is the first time that Derby have confirmed their interest.
The 21-year-old, who can also play in a full back role when required, has had loan spells with Perugia and Napoli - but is keen to experience the culture of Premiership football and try to make a name for himself.
Despite only ever making one league appearance for Milan, the versatile player became a firm favourite of Napoli fans during his spell there in 1998-99 and will hope to have a similar impact in England.
He could have a stunning debut awaiting him, with Barcelona due to provide the opposition for the Premiership side in a glamorous friendly, this Friday, at Pride Park.
Jim Smith has been alerted to the availability of several Italian prospects by Stefano Eranio, who has returned to the playing staff himself, after some work as an unofficial scout for The Rams.
Meanwhile, Georgi Kinkladze missed the club's trip to Estonia after losing his passport during the pre-season visit to La Manga.
