The 26-year-old has joined The Rams in a £3 million deal and become boss Colin Todd's fifth signing since taking over at Pride Park.
Grenet, captain of the French A team, has played over 150 games for Bordeaux and was part of the squad that reached the Uefa Cup final in 1996.
Todd was delighted with his capture, who will be unveiled at a press conference on Tuesday, and told the club's official website: "I identified the right-back position as one I wanted to fill and I've certainly got the man I wanted.
"Francois is an attacking player who works up and down the flank.
"He believes a move to the Premiership will advance his international ambitions. The only reason he is not part of the senior French squad is the fact that Lilian Thuram is in that position.
"His quality should ensure he breaks into the full France side in the near future."
Last season, Grenet was voted the best right-sided defender in France and his arrival should help a Derby side rooted to the bottom of the Premiership having conceded 22 goals already this season.
