The Rams are looking at first to settle the contracts of defenders Horacio Carbonari and Bjorn Otto Bragstad with the transfer fees of a number of other high-profile players expected to be written off.
Scottish international Craig Burley (pictured), Georgian midfielder Georgi Kinkladze and Frenchman Francois Grenet are next in line as manager John Gregory looks to put Derby in a healthier financial position.
However, the highest paid player at Pride Park, Fabrizio Ravanelli - on a reported £40,000 a week - will be staying put after impressing the club hierarchy with his work-rate and commitment to the cause.
"He's putting in a lot of work and doing the business," said director Bryan Richardson.
"He can get us back into The Premiership by scoring goals."
Derby have taken six points from their opening three Division One games and will hope to continue that good start and push for a prompt return to the English top-flight.
