Barnsley have been added to the list of clubs chasing Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes.Barnsley have been added to the list of clubs chasing Scunthorpe United striker Paul Hayes.
The 21-year-old is currently mulling over a contract offer from The Iron, with a three-year deal to stay at Glanford Park on the table.
Hayes scored 19 goals this season to help Scunthorpe to promotion from League Two but is still to commit his future to Brian Laws' side.
There are several clubs keen on acquiring his services, although if he does leave Scunthorpe then a compensation package would need to be arranged.
Brighton, Blackpool, Derby and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with Hayes, who was released by Norwich City as a youngster.
Now Barnsley have been mooted as admirers of the young hot shot, with Andy Ritchie determined to turn The Tykes into League One promotion contenders next term.
Scunthorpe boss Laws is still waiting for Hayes to make a decision and admits he is unsure if the player has been contacted by other clubs.
"I don't know if there's any other clubs talking to him, if there has been they haven't been in touch with the club," said Laws.
"His agent is working exceptionally hard in talking to everybody concerned but it's at a stalemate at the moment.
"Paul has had a contract offer on the table for a while now and we have begun talks with him again over a new deal.
"But if it comes down to him leaving and us receiving compensation then so be it.
"The early indications are that Paul still wants to stay with Scunthorpe and I want him to stay too."
