Dennis Wise enjoyed a dream Coventry debut, scoring in the 6-1 thrashing of Derby.Dennis Wise enjoyed a dream debut for Coventry as he got on the scoresheet in The Sky Blues' 6-1 thrashing of Derby.
Wise produced a typically feisty display and was given a talking to by referee Graham Salisbury with less than ten seconds on the clock.
Just a minute later the hosts found themselves a goal down as Paul Peschisolido pounced on a poor back-header from Richard Shaw to edge Derby ahead.
But that was as good as things got for The Rams and Stern John quickly restored parity as he collected a Micky Doyle ball to lash home an equaliser just three minutes later.
The sides went in level at the break, but Coventry ran away with it in the second 45 as Derby crumbled.
John got the ball rolling just two minutes after the interval as he tapped home a cross-cum-shot from Dele Adebola.
Wise grabbed his debut goal shortly before the hour mark although it owed much to a deflection off Lewin Nyatanga which took the ball past the wrong-footed Lee Camp.
Three quickly became four as Adebola then got up well to power home a header from a Wise corner.
Gary McSheffrey added a real gloss to the scoreline with a late double. His first came from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Michael Johnson.
Hat-trick chasing John wanted the kick, but McSheffrey took the responsibility and converted and then added his second deep into time added on.
