Silva is looking to take advantage of an injury to Derby's Mounir el Hamdaoui.
Derby County will be without the services of the injured Mounir el Hamdaoui for some time.
The Rams currently stand just six points clear of the Championship relegation zone, and news of the Moroccan's injury comes as another blow to their survival hopes.
Hamdaoui suffered a groin strain during Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with local rivals Leicester City and he now faces up to two months on the sidelines.
Caretaker-manager Terry Westley told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "Mounir is in a lot of pain and it was a big blow when he had to come off."
The injury may clear the way for Brazilian striker Silva to stake his claim for a place in the County squad that will travel to Norwich City on Saturday.
The 30-year-old is presently on a month-to-month contract at Pride Park and, if he impresses during a run-out against the Cardiff reserves on Wednesday, he could come into the side as a ready-made replacement for Hamdaoui.
"It is up to him to show me that he is ready," Westley continued. "There is a chance for him. He is a centre forward, he has a pedigree and now he must show the coaching staff that he is the one for me to pick on Saturday.
"He has not played first-team football for a while and so we have been trying to get him fit. It is difficult to show anyone how good you are if you're not fit but a big performance from him today could make us decide to throw him in."
