Kenny Miller concedes he is resigned to playing Championship football next season as he accepts Derby are heading for the drop.
Paul Jewell's Rams are marooned at the foot of the table and having taken just nine points with 13 league games remaining, Miller accepts there will be no miracles cast at Pride Park.
On the contrary, the Scotland international already has one eye on next season, aware that the experiences accrued this term could help a promotion push in the next campaign.
Miller was relegated from the Premier League earlier in his career when with Wolves and the striker can see parallels between the two situations.
"Everybody has written us off and it does look like we will be relegated," said Miller.
"It is something I have experienced before. The starts to the two seasons were pretty similar, but Wolves only just went down whereas we have a lot of work to do. There are some similarities to be drawn between the two.
"It might be something that actually works in our favour.
"The last thing all the players want is to be playing Championship football next season after experiencing a taste of playing at this level. It is something that you don't want to give up.
"But if we go down and it takes a year to come back up to experience it again, then that is what it takes."
