Crewe pair set to seal moves to Championship outfit

Crewe have confirmed that John Brayford and James Bailey are close to sealing moves to Championship side Derby. Skysports.com revealed last week that the Rams had tabled a joint-bid for Brayford and Bailey, and were closing in on the double signing. Alex have now confirmed that a fee has been agreed and the pair have been given permission to discuss personal terms and undergo medicals at Pride Park. "We are very close to a deal now," Crewe boss Dario Gradi told the club's official website. "Everything has been agreed between the two clubs and both players are eager to go to Derby. They have not signed yet but we do not envisage any problems.

Good deal

"It is a good deal for all parties and as is our way, we wouldn't stand in their way if a club like Derby comes in for them." Derby boss Nigel Clough has been a long-time admirer of Brayford having managed the 22-year-old right-back at Burton Albion. Brayford joined Crewe on a three-year deal in 2008 and was voted the club's player of the season in his first year. Clough tried to sign Brayford last summer and he went on to be named in this season's League Two team of the year. Bailey is another product of the famed Crewe academy and the 21-year-old midfielder moves on after making 44 league starts in the last two years for Alex. Clough has moved quickly in the transfer market this summer having already agreed a deal for Doncaster left-back Gareth Roberts.
