Brown is scouring for a new striker following a season-ending injury to Ricardo Fuller and the Bhoys pair have been put under the microscope.
The North End chief watched the Scottish Under-21 internationals in action against Rangers' reserves last Monday.
But Brown admits he will not be pressed into snapping up a new marksman as he is determined to find the right man for the job.
"With the transfer window opening soon I have had up to 13 agents a day ringing me up promoting their players but we are being very thorough in our search and will not be rushed into a decision," Brown told the club's official website.
"I did go up to Scotland on Monday to check out the Old Firm reserve game in which Simon Lynch scored two goals. But he is just one of several young players out of contract at the end of the season.
"We were also watching the young boy Maloney from Celtic and have had a look at a few players from Rangers.
"I think the Lynch rumour started because I was seen speaking to his father, Andy, who I know well from when he used to play for Celtic."
Lynch has made just one appearance for The Bhoys this season and North End could face competition from First Division rivals, Coventry, Derby and Norwich for his services.
Teenage hot shot Maloney has largely been employed as a substitute and after signing a three-year contract extension in September, Celtic would only allow the 19-year-old to leave Parkhead on loan.
