Stuart Murdoch's side were relegated by a midweek home defeat to Sunderland, but that did not stop his youngsters from providing an entertaining six-goal thriller at The National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Wayne Gray (pictured) ended his 14-month goal drought by giving The Dons the lead six minutes in with a curling strike from the edge of the area.
Preston drew level midway through the opening half when Richard Cresswell set up Paul McKenna to slot home his shot past Wimbledon keeper Scott Bevan for 1-1.
Craig Brown's side were rewarded for their overall first half dominance as Simon Lynch volleyed with left-footed strike to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at the break.
Ben Chorley brought The Dons level on 65 minutes with a header from substitute Malvin Kamara's cross.
Preston looked to have wrapped up the points as South African international George Koumantarakis fired home from 20 yards out with six minutes left.
But in the third minute of stoppage time, Gray scored his second goal with a low drive to earn a valiant but futile point for the home side and dent Preston's play-off hopes.
