Preston and Cardiff fought out an entertaining draw at Deepdale, with the visitors recovering from two goals down to earn a point.
Both teams will finish frustrating seasons in mid-table having flirted with the play-offs earlier in the campaign, but it was Preston who looked to have cast aside their dismal recent form with a bright start to the match.
Craig Brown's men had won only once in their previous 11 games, but they were 2-0 up shortly after the interval thanks to goals from Eddie Lewis and Paul McKenna.
United States international Lewis opened the scoring after a clever link up with Ricardo Fuller, picking up the return ball before drilling a left-foot shot beyond Martyn Margetson.
Lewis almost added a second before half time with a drive which struck the woodwork, but McKenna made it two with a fine individual goal, picking up possession on half way before drifting through the Cardiff defence and blasting a shot beyond the keeper.
Cardiff responded immediately when Andy Campbell, selected ahead of Robert Earnshaw to give him a chance to prove his fitness, blasted an unstoppable 30-yard strike past Jonathan Gould.
And just three minutes later they were level when Danny Gabbidon headed in from Richard Langley's cross.
Margetson pulled off a fine save to deny Lewis a winner, and Preston were again thwarted in the final minute when Chris Lucketti headed against the bar from Graham Alexander's corner.
