Jackson brings a seven-year spell with The Lilywhites to an end and, with his current contract to expire in the summer, the 30-year-old will now look for pastures new ahead of next season.
"Michael has been a fantastic servant for Preston North End in the seven years that he has been here," Preston chairman Derek Shaw told the club's official website.
"He is a truly dedicated professional but with a couple of offers from other clubs already on the table, he feels that it is time to move on in order to secure guaranteed first team football at another club."
