Rovers sign Jackson

Tranmere Rovers have signed centre back Michael Jackson on a free transfer from Preston North End.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Prenton Park club after failing to come to terms on a new deal with The Lilywhites.

Jackson becomes manager Brian Little's eighth signing since the season came to an end earlier this month, with Jackson having spent time on loan at Wirral-based side in December 2002.

"I am delighted to have completed the signing of Mike Jackson," Little told the club's official website.

"We have been looking around for a central defender who is the right age and has the right experience and Mike fits the bill.

"He has been playing regularly in the First Division and when we found out he was interested in signing, it was great news."
