Shrewsbury Town have signed striker Kelvin Langmead from Preston North End.Shrewsbury Town have completed the permanent signing of striker Kelvin Langmead from Championship side Preston North End.
The 19-year-old has put pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half year contract with the Gay Meadow club after joining for an undisclosed fee from The Lilywhites.
"By signing Kelvin, it allows us to get another loan spot back and that helps in the future," Shrews boss Gary Peters told the club's official website.
"We felt we wanted Kelvin on our books, he's only 19 and with the form he's shown already I'm sure he will become a very good player."
Peters, meanwhile, says a faxed offer from League Two rivals Chester City for midfielder Jamie Tolley is nowhere near their valuation of the player.
His reply comes after Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan claimed to have submitted a five-figure bid for the Wales Under-21 international.
The former Exeter City manager, however, was less than impressed by Chester's £10,000 offer and the manner in which it was sent.
"There's no bid been in from Chester - they sent a fax stating that they would pay £5,000 now and £5,000 in a year's time," Peters added.
"They tried to make out it was a five-figure fee - £10,000 is a five-figure fee, but I think they were trying to make it look in their local paper that that had offered £90 to £100 grand.
"If you are going to do something, you may as well do it legitimately and properly, but to send a fax with something as stupid as that and then to tell your local paper about it makes me wonder what they are trying to achieve.
"It's ridiculous and even if they had offered that sort of money, Jamie wouldn't be available."
